Welcome to Mechanical Engineering Programme at School of Engineering and Technology (SET), University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS)

Our graduates work in almost every technology-based industry: automotive, electric power, space and aerospace, steel and materials, bioengineering, chemical and petro-chemical, robotics and manufacturing, pulp and paper, and oil and gas and etc.

 

Our goal for undergraduate students is to give them a high-quality engineering education that includes hands-on experience. Each of our programme members is ready and willing to work in their research specialty with capable students on individual projects. Our programme have two major areas of research: thermal systems and mechanical systems. Both areas strongly support the growing automotive and manufacturing economy in the state and the region.

 

We strive to ensure that all our undergraduate students have a strong education with teaming and leadership skills, involvement in student activities, and the practical background of co-op and internship experience. We believe that emphasizing these areas will make our students well qualified to take leadership roles in the future.

 

The department offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs enriched in core learnings, challenges and opportunities. We have a strong graduate program in mechanical engineering, including a Scholars Program for students pursuing a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five years. Our master’s and doctoral students give numerous technical presentations in courses and on their research. All graduate students are also expected to publish their research in relevant peer reviewed engineering journals.

 

The research works at Mechanical Engineering Programme is contributing strongly in developing products and processes such as sustainable fuels and energy resources, intelligent automation, micro- and nano science, and advanced manufacturing processes. In the pages that follow, you will read many creative ways our school, alumni and students are bringing out their talent, passion and interests in exploration of manufacturing and maintenance art, in designing next generation equipment, engines, fuels, robotic mechanisms, bio-inspired engineering and many more.

 

Regular interaction with industry through collaborative projects, course requirements and general discussions on advancements in technological aspects develop an environment closer to the practical essence of engineering. Regular activities are arranged and encouraged in the programme for indigenous product development, skills enhancement and interdisciplinary interactions.
